Who I am
This is the personal website of Dean Johnston (Newcastle upon Tyne), and I run it myself. I am the person responsible for any personal data it collects. Contact me at[email protected].
What is recorded
- Server logs: your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, the response code, your browser and device type (user agent), the page you came from (referrer) and the country your connection appears to come from.
- Visit statistics: page views, referrer, browser, operating system, device type and approximate location, collected by a self-hosted copy of Umami. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, it records nothing.
I do not use advertising or tracking cookies, I do not build profiles of people, and I do not sell or share this data.
Why
To keep the site secure (spotting abuse such as automated probing and attacks), to keep it running, and to understand roughly how many people read it. My legal basis is legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
How long
Server logs, including IP addresses, are deleted automatically after 12 months. Visit statistics are kept as long as they remain useful and contain no information that directly identifies you.
Other companies
- Cloudflare sits in front of this site to deliver it quickly and protect it. It processes requests, including your IP address, and gives me anonymous traffic figures. SeeCloudflare's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces. Your browser fetches them from Google, which sees your IP address. SeeGoogle's privacy policy.
Your rights
You can ask to see what I hold about you, or ask me to delete it, by emailing[email protected]. Because logs are keyed by IP address, include the address you used so I can find it. If you are unhappy with how I handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office atico.org.uk.
